ഇൻഡ്യൻ മെഡിക്കൽ അസ്സോസിയേഷൻ എന്നാൽ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഡോക്ടർമാരുടെ സംഘടന. ഇൻഡ്യൻ മെഡിക്കൽ അസ്സോസിയേഷൻ തിരുവനന്തപുരം ശാഖ അവരുടെ സൈറ്റിൽ കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ഫോട്ടോകളിൽ ഒന്ന് പോലും ഇന്ത്യാക്കാരുടെതെന്നു കണ്ടാൽ പറയില്ല. എല്ലാം വെളുത്ത സായിപ്പന്മാരുടെ. ഇടയ്ക്കു ഒരു കറുപ്പും. 32-34 ഡിഗ്രി ചൂടിൽ കഴിയുന്ന തിരുവനന്തപുരം കാരായ ഡോക്ടർ മാരുടെ ഒരാളുടെ പടം എങ്കിലും ഈ 12 വിദേശി കളുടെ ഇടയിൽ കൊടുത്തു കൂടായിരുന്നോ? എന്തിനാണ് ഡോക്ടർ സാറന്മാരേ ഈ അപകർഷതാ ബോധം?
ഡോക്ടർ ജോലിയെക്കാളും അദായകരം ബാർബർ ജോലി ആണെന്നും പത്തു മിനിറ്റ് തല ക്ലീൻ ക്ഷൌരം ചെയ്‌താൽ 100 രൂപ കിട്ടും പക്ഷെ 10 വർഷം വൈദ്യം പഠിച്ച ഡോക്ടർക്ക് പരിശോധന ഫീസ്‌ കിട്ടുന്നതോ നൂറോ അതിൽ താഴെയോ ആണെന്നും അവർ പറയുന്നു.
ഈ പണി വയ്യെങ്കിൽ ക്ഷൌരം ചെയ്യാൻ പോയ്ക്കൂടെ എന്ന് ഒരു നാടൻ ചൊല്ലുണ്ട്. (ക്ഷൌരം എന്നതിന്റെ അപരിഷ്കൃത പ്രയോഗം ആയ 'ചെരയ്ക്കാൻ' എന്ന് ആണ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്). അത് അന്വർത്ഥം ആക്കുകയാണോ ഇവർ? ഈ ഡോക്ടർ മാർ ഇത്രത്തോളം അധ:പ്പതിച്ചു എന്നുള്ളത് വളരെ കഷ്ട്ടമാണ്. രോഗം ഭേദം ആക്കുന്നവൻ, സ്വാന്തനം അരുളുന്നവൻ, അങ്ങിനെ ദൈവം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിപുരുഷൻ എന്നെല്ലാം ജനങ്ങൾ ധരിച്ചു വച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഡോക്ടർ മാരാണ് പണത്തിനു വേണ്ടി സ്വന്തം തൊഴിലിനെ തള്ളിപ്പറയുന്നത്.
പരിശോധന ഫീസ്‌ കൂട്ടിക്കിട്ടിയാൽ മരുന്ന് കമ്പനികളും ലാബുകളും കൊടുക്കുന്ന കൈക്കൂലിക്കു പിറകെ പോകണ്ട എന്നാണു പറയുന്നത്. അതിനർത്ഥം ഇപ്പോൾ അത്തരം കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങുന്നു എന്നും പണം കൂടുതൽ സമ്പാദിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി ഇനിയും അത് ചെയ്യും എന്നല്ലേ?
ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷണികതയും അർത്ഥ ശൂന്യതയും മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ അവസരം ലഭിക്കുന്ന ഡോക്ടർമാർ ആണ് ഇങ്ങിനെ പണത്തിനു വേണ്ടിയും ഭൌതിക സുഖങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ടിയും ആർത്തി പിടിക്കുന്നത്‌ എന്നത് അത്ഭുതം ഉളവാക്കുന്നു. മരണത്തിനു മുന്നിലുള്ള മനുഷ്യന്റെ നിസ്സഹായത ഇവർ എത്ര കാണുന്നു? എന്നിട്ടും ഇങ്ങിനെ പെരുമാറുന്നതെന്ത്? 70,000 രൂപ ശമ്പളം ഇവർക്ക് കുറവാണെന്ന്! തങ്ങളുടെ മുൻപിൽ രോഗവും ആയി വരുന്ന പട്ടിണി പ്പാവങ്ങളുടെ മുഖം ഇവർ കാണാറില്ലേ? ദുർബ്ബലമായ ഹൃദയത്തുടിപ്പുകൾ സ്റ്റെതസ്കോപ്പിൽ കൂടിയെങ്കിലും കേൾക്കാറില്ലേ? ഒട്ടിയ വയറിലെ വിശപ്പിന്റെ വിളി കേൾക്കാറില്ലേ ?
കത്തി കൊണ്ട് ശരീരം കീറി മുറിക്കാൻ ഡോക്ടർമാർ പഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ. ഇനി ആ കത്തി കൊണ്ട് ശരീരം മുറിയാതെ ചെയ്‌താൽ ക്ഷൌരം വിജയം ആയി. നല്ലൊരു ബാർബറും ആയി. പണം കൂടുതൽ കിട്ടും.എല്ലാ ആശംസകളും.
Bipin: When I graduated in 1993 my pay as an intern was 750RS, this after 4 1/2 years of study. The admin staff at the hospital earned 1700RS at that time ( most didn't even have a degree). I was paid such a meagre salary because internship was mandatory and even if they didn't pay, I still have to do it. ( there are hospitals in Bangalore that do not pay interns at all). This is called exploitation..This continues all through..

If I was working as a clinician, I need to keep my knowledge up to date ( so my patients get the best care), it involves reading journals, attending seminars etc, which all cost a lot of money.. then there is long working hours and lack of family life..
It isn't that doctors are heartless and can't hear the cries for help..it is that, we give a lot to ensure that the patient gets the best..It is unfair to say that the profession is noble, therefore those who practice must do it free/ cheap etc..
who will feed our children or take care of our family?
Government doctors send patients to those medical labs and scan centres which are charging exorbitant rates and pocket commission. Doctors in private hospitals unnecessarily prescribe lab tests and scan to achieve the targets fixed by the hospitals and get commission. Doctors prescribe medicines of a particular company and get commission from the company. Doctors do all the unethical things. See the poor patients in India not covered by any insurance or government policy.

Corruption and collusion are the integral part of Indian economy..It is there in every walk of life. What India needs is a compulsory medicare ( not the American kind)..
