RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

“Responsible Tourism” is nothing but an attractive nomenclature to camouflage exploiting nature. It was sustainable tourism earlier.  The ultimate beneficiaries are rich business groups who own airlines, hotels resorts etc.

Preserving socio-cultural identity and economic development are just slogans to fool people and make money as the local population get peanuts, some taxi men may get an extra buck, at the cost of destruction of their environment and polluting nature.

What we need is Restricted Tourism, not opening everything like a whore but controlled exposure  of areas earmarked for the purpose without allowing big sharks in the field of hotel and resort to encroach the nature and mar its beauty. Is it our culture to sell ourselves and earn money?

International Conference on Responsible Tourism is to be held at Kumarakom, Kerala from 27 to 29 June 2013.The backwaters, Vembanad Kayal is already polluted with the oil spillage from the hundreds of mechanized boats carrying tourists,  food waste and human excreta dumped from these boats. Will the organizers show the delegates the degree of water pollution?

And the fellows talking fluently about responsible tourism are the ones who  recklessly and irresponsibly started  the sea plane service  in this lake.
