FIGHT AGAINST ENDOSULFAN

Wiki Leaks

Wiki Leaks has once again brought out the dirty acts of the United States and showed the world how contemptuously they treat other countries and their heads and use them against each other to safeguard the vested interest of the US. More to come out and the Pentagon is worried about the source of the leak and more worried about its fall out. One might not be surprised if the next disclosure brings out the underhand dealings of some Indian politicians in power conspiring with the US to undermine the larger interest of India or calling Indian head with some dirty name like ”naked emperor" given to Sarkozy. Even the impregnable fortress of the Pentagon could be penetrated and vaults opened to dole out the highly classified documents show the urge, determination and commitment of the man to unravel the truth.

The whole world is rejoicing at the emergence of truth at last through the 'Wiki Leaks'. Is it not an irony that Ratan Tata, born in the land of "Satyameva Jayate" has moved the Supreme Court against the disclosure of taped conversation indicting his industrial empire in the 1,76000 crore rupee G2 spectrum scam?

Tailpiece- However resourceful and shrewd Julian Assange or his 'Wiki Leaks' group might be they will have to sweat it out to get hold of a single official document from India. You know why? The documents will vanish into thin air in no time as in the case of files in the "Adarsh Flat" and others Scams!

FIGHT ENDOSULFAN

Children are born with deformities. Remember Sainaba, the girl with a very large head and a lean body? (see her photo in my post 'endosulfan' of 10th December,2009).Physically and mentally retarded "children" of 20 or 30 years of age who cannot move without the help from others live there. 3 people die every month. All these are the result of the deadly poisonous pesticide, endosulfan which was sprayed extensively on the cashew plantations in Kasargod. The people of Kerala are waging a war against this pesticide which has poisoned the soil, air and water of Kasargod.
Even though it is now banned in Kerala, courtesy the humanitarian consideration of the High Court, it is being manufactured in bulk in our own state of Kerala. It is quite alarming that none of the trade union leaders have uttered a single word against endosulphan even though their own comrades are manufacturing the same. In this land of strikes not even a token strike called against this poison which kills our people slowly. Workers of Kerala unite and rise.

FORGET POLITICS -REMEMBER PEOPLE

The local body election in Kerala is just over and all parties were trying their maximum to wrest  control over the adminsitration. Mutual  help by rival parties in many places need not be seen as unholy or immoral but as a positive sign towards emergence of a new culture of apolitical administration. There is no clash of ideals among the parties as none of them have any ideals other than reaching power. It is also not against their manifesto as most do not have it and those who released do not go by it.
The people have exercised their right to vote, their only role in our democracy, intelligently and the fluid situation of no body having majority is its result. It is people's will, as they have only options of devil and deep sea, to have an administration devoid of petty political considerations but one based on real developmental agenda. So the newly elected representatives should rise to the occasion and to the expectations of the people and should present an administration for the people.

SECURITY AT SABARIMALA

The security cover at Sabarimala temple was very poor during the 5 day pooja this month. The man at the metal detector was looking other side as the machine was sending long beeps. Mobile phones were rampantly used inside the temple precinct and the police was busy shoving away the devotees to pave way for special darshan of VIPS.Even though it was not season fairly large crowd was there but the police had a casual approach and nothing untowards happens by the grace of Lord Ayyappa.

Now the Mandalam-Vilakku season starts shortly and security measures are to be tightened. Powerful CCTV cameras to be put at 'Nadapandal' and at important places as part of crowd control and as security measure. Fleecing of devotees in the name of special 'darshan' of 'thanthri' and 'melshanti' to be stopped to reduce unnecessary crowd inside the temple. 'Ney' for 'abhishekam' to be sent in and out through a conveyor belt. Aravana is no more a 'nivedyam' prepared inside the temple but in commercial plants outside, such plants should be put up at Pamba and Nilackal and sale from there will bring down crowd at 'Sannidhanam'.

VOTING WITHOUT ID

Bogus voting was rampant in the recently held Panchayath election, alleged the political parties. Then why none of them demanded to the Election Commission for making ID proof compulsory? Or they secretly desired to have this way?

BAN ON "AYYAPPA" ?

Kerala State Road Trasnport Corporation ban of "Swami Saranam" stcikers on its special buses to Sabarimala  is immature, unprofessional and appears to be for appeasing hardcore communalists.  Nobody has so far complained about it and it was accepted as a good gesture to the millions of Ayyappa devotees travelling in the KSRTC buses. And the irony is that KSRTC which is running in to losses is surviving only on the extra money charged from the Ayyappa devotees  during the season.

It is good that the order is withdrawn. Hope that the immature brains will not venture into similar mis-adventures.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Commonwealth Games, the 70,000 crore rupees (?) extravaganza in the name of sports has come to a close. More than the medals India got, the corruption  is getting in to news. 8000 crore rupee worth of corruption was found out by the CAG in the preliminary round and much to come out in the following days when all the agencies, Enforcement directorate,DRI, Income Tax Department and CBI etc. explore more. Whether it will have the same fate of the infamous Bofors kickback which had a neat burial is for us to wait and watch.

Most of our medals are in the usual events like wrestling, shooting, boxing, archery etc. and performance in track and field events is very poor. It shows that sports as a whole has not made any improvement with the CWG.Will our athletes gain much out of this game? Not much it seems. So why can’t we pull out of the future Commonwealth games and instead spend the money to provide facilities to the sportsmen to improve their performances.
We know the inhuman conditions under which our sportsmen live and practice. Torn out jersies,sub-standard boots and undernourised diet are what our sportsmen get now. Why can't the amount spent for the CWG should be spent for the real sportspersons? With this money wasted on CWG we can provide world class facilities, equipments, food and coaches. And our sportsmen will rise to international level.

AMBANI'S EGO

27 floors, 570 ft. high, 40,0000 sq. ft., 3 helipads, 160 vehicle parking and what not , everything available on earth. Not any hotel or commercial complex. But a residence. The residence for the stay of just 4 persons, Mukersh Ambani, his wife and two children. At the cost of a whopping 4000 crore rupees. He is the richest man in India. But will that entitle him for this national wastage? Plundering the natural resources to show off his wealth and clout in the administration?

His wealth is the blood and toil of the people. Earned through unscrupulous methods. Remember, BEHIND EVERY FORTURE THERE IS A CRIME (Balzac)

Hundreds of tonnes of steel, cement, sand, wood, marble, glass and other natural materials have gone into this gigantic residence. All of them taken from the earth, the common property of the living beings of the world. He was plundering the planet and usurping his fellow beings. Outrage on the people of the world!

It is in Mumbai. Not far away from this heaven of Ambani is Amaravathi district where 98 children  died of malnutrition in this September alone. This is common sight everywhere in India.37% of India’s current population of 115 crore people, are below poverty line. 170 million people are slum dwellers. 78 million people are homeless in India.

And in this scenario Mr. Mukersh Ambani and his family of 4 are staying in the 4000 crore rupee house! Are you not ashamed Mr. Mukesh?

AYODHYA VERDICT

Ayodhya judgment of the Allahabad High Court came out  and the whole nation heaved  a sigh of relief. It was a war like situation prevailing in the country for the last some days, with ban orders, forces out in arms, a massive preparation to face any eventuality. None of the litigants appear to have any serious grievance about the judgment, even though, for the sake of creating an impression before their followers, all of them have announced their intention to move the Supreme Court.

Now it is the turn of the so called legal experts to exercise restraint. Already some of them have come out terming it as 'panchayathi justice' or so. Let these legal hawks stop scratching their head to find flaws in the judgement as all the peace loving Indians are fully happy with the verdict.

What for  law is made? For the people to live in peace and for their well being. That purpose is served with this judgment. Then why these legal luminiaries think over ways to unsettle it and put nation in to chaos?

We have other priorities. The basic responsibility of providing food to the millions of starving people. Development of the nation and its people and a lot more.

So let us not inflame passion and exploit sentiments in the name of the Ramajanmabhoomi verdict. Allow peaceful co-existence and communal harmony.

NO END TO ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS

Strange that all the three of them, the self financing medical college managements, the Justice Mohammad Committee and the Kerala Government in a single voice hailed the Supreme Court verdict to conduct another entrance examination for the unfilled 97 plus seats.

Had it been the case why the managements have moved the Supreme Court against the High court order of cancelling their private entrance examination? They could have informed the High Court of a new test.

Mohammed Committee now says that he will supervise a new examination. Why the Committee did not tell the High Court that the earlier test was unauthorised, not transparent and that he did not endorse it? The Committee remained totally silent  about his roll.

Why the Govenrment remained mute spectator when the management forced students to pay 10 lakh rupees cash and 22 lakhs bank guarantee in one day? Had it been challenged in the Supreme Court enough students would have got chance and the 97 seats would have been filled.

The 2008 test conducted by the same managements under the very same Mohammed committee has been nullified by the High Court.

Management says they have conducted the test transparently, under the supervision of the Committee and has the full endorsement of the Mohammed Committee. The Committee remain silent about this allegation or about its endorsement.

The new entrance test is to be held on 10th October.
Since both the examinations of 2008 and 2010 were found illegal by the courts the credibility of the private management is at stake and will it be wise to entrust them to commit another fraud on the innocent students? Mohammed Committee was very much there on both the occassions. Time is running out and the prospective candidates should bring the matter before the Supreme Court and get a direction to the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations to the conduct the test.

RTI ACT & MURDER

Right to Information Act is the Magna Carta of the ordinary Indian citizens enabling them to know the truth which was forbidden and to know how they are being exploited and cheated by the administration, the rich and the influential. Its creators never visualised its enormous powers and never expected that it will expose them one day. Once they realised it, they tried in vain to clip its wings but public opinion saved the Act from being downsized and it remains as the foundation stone of the right and liberties of the Indian people.

Now it is the mafia with the connivance of the rulers are moving against the RTI applicants. Two prominent RTI activists were murdered by the goons recently for having in possession some  incriminating information. It should not be allowed to happen in future.

An association of all genuine RTI activists all over India is the need of the hour to counter the increasing threat and onslaught of the bewlidered mafia. RTI activits should immediately start a portal and all important information obtained under the Act should be puhlished in it for the benefit of the public and keep it as a venue for interation. Once this movement is made stronger the murderers will be fully exposed and will be scared to touch the RTI applicants.

ARANMULA AIRPORT

Aranmula airport project was given green signal on condition that alternate land equal to the paddy fields already filled by the promoters is to be given to Government. Still the 350 acres of paddy fields will be lost to the people forever. Here comes the question whether an airport is required at Aranmula, which is in between Trivandrum and Cochin airports, just about 150 kilometrers or around 3 hours journey away. To avoid this journey do we need destruction of 500 acres of valuable agricultural land and wasting of 2000 crores of rupees?

Already we have three airports in the small densely populated state of Kerala, which cannot afford any more. The Aranmula airport is the brainchild of some filthy rich US Malayalees to show off their wealth and satisfy their false ego. It is an irony that  the same fellows who have gone to Bombay in II class train and then to US want to land in their court yards! Land mafia also plays a major role. Aranmula airport is totally unwanted and an ecological disaster of our already fragile land. Let the promoters turn wise and instead invest the money on the roads from Cochin and Trivandrum airports to Aranmula.

FREE FOOD FOR BPL

Where the legislature refuses to deliver, the judiciary steps in with welfare measures. Supreme Court’s ORDER, not suggestion, to give food grains free or at low cost to people below poverty line is the land mark judgment in the backdrop of the ridiculous situation of millions of tonnes of food grains rotting in godowns. Subsidized food grains are absolutely unnecessary for the APL which is evident from their life style. Sale figures of cars, gold, real estate and growth of hotels, resorts, airlines etc. stand testimony to their spending spree. Most of the APL people are in the habit of ‘eating out’ at least once a day. Then why these guys need subsidized food?

The gap between the have and have nots has widened alarmingly. The legislature should come up with some programme with one per cent of the enthusiasm and solidarity  they showed in the the fight for their pay hike, to provide at least a square meal a day to the poor.

PRIVATE MEDICAL COLLEGES

Supreme Court verdict directing to admit students for MBBS from the State Common Entrance Test is what the parents and students have been aspiring for years and what the Kerala Government and the SFC managements have been blocking. It is a heavy blow to the unholy alliance of the Government and the SFC. The selling of seats for 50 or 60 lakhs should  have to come to an end with this verdict of the apex court.

There need not be any apprehension about the fate of the students already got admission under Government quota as they have got it under merit. The doubt about not getting students on the higher management fees is also out of place as the students can study now without shelling out the 50 lakhs. We need not worry about the students who have been selected on the basis of “the private entrance" as this has been termed as illegal and not transparent by the courts. That test conducted by the private managements was only an eye wash to fool the people of Kerala.

KERALA LOTTERY & THE PROLETARIAT

V.I. LENIN

“Two persons (the one who ran the lottery and the one who won the cow, as prize) gained without doing any work, and gained at the expense of the ninety-nine who lost their money. Thus, those who say that lotteries are advantageous to the people are simply practising deceit on the people.”

Who said these words? None other than Lenin, the God of communists of all the world.

Isn't it applicable to all lotteries whether sponsored by Governments or Private parties?

Why can’t we listen to the Communist acharya and stop the lottery in Kerala?

SANITARY NAPKINS

Kerala Government is planning to install sanitary napkin vending machines in 900 schools. At Rs. 12000/- a machine, the project will cost around Rs. 1.10 crores. Hindustan Life Care Ltd. has been entrusted with this job it is learnt. It is not a wise decision to give away this huge amount just for dispensing machines.

The manufacturing of the napkins will obviously be done by big monopolistic companies and Kerala industry will not be benefited out of this proposition. So this money of 1.10 crores being invested for the vending machines should be given as the capital cost for starting small scale units manufacturing napkins at all districts as the process of manufacturing is simple and the cost of machinery very less. The Kudumbasree workers can take care of supplying napkins to the schools.

The proposed selling cost of napkin is one rupee and naturally the Government has to subsidize. This amount can be used as the running cost of these units instead of giving it to big companies. The Small scale Industry in Kerala will develop providing jobs to many people.

PUBLIC TOILETS

From the open air Malayalee has improved into the privacy of the lavatory but is still ages behind in the matter of public toilets. The concept of public toilets is alien to hotels, shopping places, petrol pumps etc. where people frequent and the namesake facilities at bus stands and railway stations are the ugliest and most unhygienic, the very thought of it will bring in nausea and using it will bring in diseases. The travelling public are the worst affected. Men still manage to urinate in the open but women folks reluctant to follow suit are destined to hold it and succumb to urinary infection and other more serious diseases.

Our Government is to be blamed for this ridiculous and shameful situation. They are spending crores of rupees to educate people the importance of personal hygiene. Advertisements in visual and print media ask people to wash their hands properly afterwards but are silent about lavatories. Government should enact legislation to make it compulsory to put up proper and hygiene toilets at every hotel, shopping malls, restaurants and other such buildings, bus stations etc. where people visit. Banks operate ATMs everywhere in our State. It should be made mandatory for the banks to put up state-of-the-art toilets along with ATMs that can be opened using the ATM card which will a great relief especially for motorists to relieve themselves.

KERALA UNIVERSITY SENATE

Governor has returned the list of Kerala University Senate nominees. The opposition parties were crying foul over the list alleging inclusion of political persons. If the opposition parties are really sincere about what they said why can't they present an alternative list of eminent scholars who can bring back the glory of this august body, also to show the world that Kerala is not short of honest men having excellent track record.

COURT VERDICTS A CONSPIRACY?

"It is a conspiracy", "I am victimized", “to eliminate me from politics”, these are usual expressions of politicians when court verdicts go against them. Does it mean that the courts are party to the conspiracy?

Court verdicts cannot be conspiracy or victimisation. Their detractors might have conspired to bring it before the court. In the court they had defended the case. They should have proved the conspiracy theory before the courts.  Courts pronounce judgments after weighing the evidence. Then how can they say like this once the judgement comes out??

PILGRIMS' PROGRESS

Sabarimala is the abode of 'Lord Ayyappa' visited by millions, and overcrowded during 'Mandala-Makaravilakku' season. Widening of the 'pathinettampadi'(18 holy steps) and 'sreekovil' door is not the soulution. If that is the case, it will be more easy that 'Lord Ayyappa' is kept in the open atop a tall pedastal and steps constructed all around so that thousands can get darshan in one minute!

Pilgrims visit there knowing well the difficulties to reach the sanctum-sanctorum and they like to have 'darshan' of 'Bhagavan' in the present set-up. Reformists may call it foolish or meaningless but one should remember that the whole thing moves around the 'belief' that 'Lord Ayyappa' is there at Sabarimala and hence the devotees have every right to stick to the old rituals and the narrow '18 steps' and sreekovil door.

Using Sabarimala as a means to make money by the Deveswaom Board and its officials and politicians is the basic reason for the inhuman conditions prevailing there. The motto of the Devaswom is to make money and inroder to achieve it they exploit and fleece the innocent devotees. Once they think about the devotees and forget the share of the loot and implement the following welfare measures the whole situation will change.

1. Allow entry only through Pathinettampadi.

2. Stop the 'darshan' given by Thanthri and Melshanthi.

3.Supply free food to all and remove all kinds of shops/stalls from Pamba,on trekking path and  at Sannidhanam.

4.Swami Ayyappan road to be developed for exclusive return journey.

5.Dismantle the aravana and appam plant from Sannidhanam and install at Nilackal and supply aravana at Nilackal and Pamba only.

6.Stop padipooja of devotees.

7.Develop Nilackal as the base camp.

WORLD CUP FRENZY

Soccer fans the world over had sumptuous feast for the last one month with 32 teams and 64 intensely played matches. The curtain came down on the World Cup on Sunday night with Spain winning the coveted World Cup. Football- a real entertaining game, fast and thrilling, loved by almost all. And Shakira was so enchanting and captivating still haunting with her Waka Waka.

World cup fever caught Kerala also. Not the ordinary fever but the fierce variety. Made people delirious. They put huge flex boards and banners of Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Germany teams and big cut-outs of Messy and others. Made mock world cup matches with celebrities kicking off. People were mad after world cup. Media did their part by sending reporters all over Kerala to get live coverage of football celebrations giving maximum propaganda.

Don’t blame media. Publicity is their bread. But what about the hysteria people have shown? India was nowhere near the doorstep of the world cup. Pathetically failed to cross even the round 1 qualifying match! What difference it would have made for us if Brazil won the cup in the place of Spain or if Holland won? Nothing. Is it not like crying for USA or China to win gold in the Olympics? So the frenzy we saw in Kerala was nothing but hypocrisy and an act of escapism.

MILMA- ATM

Milma is introducing milk vending machines in the line of ATM. You swipe a card and there comes out milk pouches. Milk was sold in the conventional glass bottles earlier and with the advent of Milma, plastic pouches came into existence in the name of convenience. Over the years the empty milk pouches invaded every inch of Kerala posing a threat to the ecology.

Now Milma is coming out with vending machines they can do away with these pouches to a great extend and restrict the plastic menace if some changes are made in their idea. Machines dispensing milk directly the customers’ containers can be installed. This method was successfully run by Mother Dairy years back in Delhi, by dispensing half litre chilled milk for a token. As these machines are to be kept in flat complexes and residential complexes, carrying own containers will not be inconvenient for the consumers, like going to the milkman’s house with utensils to collect milk in the olden days. Milma can also think of dispensing milk in old type reusable glass bottles through the machines. Now Milma is spending money in a large way to introduce ATM machines it is time for them to think of these two methods.

HARTHAL - PETROL 15/10

The very thought of harthal makes nausea. But there is another harthal imposed on Kerala on 5th July. Second in row in a weeks’ time. Both for the same reason- Petrol price hike. Success of harthal depends on 3 factors-Official sponsorship, Political patronage and third Publicity by media. A local harthal called for Thiruvananthapuram district on 1st July was a flop as none of these factors helped them and life was absolutely normal that day.

We cannot expect such luck in the next harthal on 5th July as all these three factors are very much active already. So it is now for the people to act and resist harthals. First thing is to change our mindset of celebrating harthals. Avoid thronging at the wineshops and chicken shops on harthal eve for distress purchase of wine and meat. Let there be no advance preparation for harthal. Let it be like any other day. If possible reach workplace. If the harthal supporters are so adamant in preventing you in reaching office, declare the next holiday as a wroking day and work to compensate the lost harthal day. Let the shops open immediately at the closing of harthal. Let us request media not to give wide publicity to harthal. Talk everywhere against harthal and create awareness among people about the evils of harthal and how it destroys our country.Things will definitely change in the near future.

A Name for Harthal

Harthals are quite frequent that one forgets when it was held and what for it was done. So let us start naming it like the latest trend in cyclones. First cyclone this year  was 'Laila' named by Pakistan  and second 'Phet' named by Myanmar. Similarly let this harthal be “PETROL 15/10” (15 denotes the number of harthal and 10 year 2010) and from next harthal onwards chance to be given to each party in rotation to suggest names.

THE RULE OF THE ROAD

Kerala High Court order banning wayside public meeting is quite laudable as it is for safeguarding the right of the citizens guaranteed by the Constitution of India. It is a great relief to the common man whose movements are restricted by road meetings and demonstrations. These meeting are virtually held encroaching the roads curtailing the free movement of the people thereby encroaching on their fundamental rights. But the poor people have no alternative other than suffer silently.

Whether this judgment infringe on the right of the people to assemble? NO. It does not in anyway. Why?

Remember A.G. Gardiner? One of the most popular essayists of 20th century. Most of the people, studied in school might have read his essay “RULE OF THE ROAD” ( from ‘Leaves in the Wind’). He presents a lady who was walking down the middle of a street to the great confusion of the traffic saying

‘I am going to walk where I like. It is my liberty.’

Is it correct? No. She simply forgets the basic thing that she has the liberty but her liberty should not touch anybody else’s liberty.

The situation is similar here. People have right to assemble on way- side but their right should not come in the way of the right of other people to walk freely on the road.
“A reasonable consideration for the rights or feelings of others is the foundation of social conduct”

TRIVANDRUM GOLF CLUB

Supreme Court verdict in Trivandrum Golf Club case proved once again, like Mullaperiyar, that even Government can win cases if it has a strong will. This case was by a group of wealthy and hence influential people for continuance of occupancy and possession of Government property of 25 acres of prime land in the heart of the city for their private use, to drink and make merry under the label of golf club. It is an elite club where ordinary citizens cannot afford to make entry due to exorbitant fees. The members are  rich that the club could have easily managed 6 or 60 crores collecting from its 600 members  and made their own golf club somewhere else leaving the encroached land. But they preferred to manipulate things to make false claims and unashamedly fought to wrest control of the public land to enjoy at the cost of the poor people, dragging the case up to the Supreme Court.

The determination on the part of the ministers was crucial here as it scared detractors, at the same time gave a fillip to the honest officials of the bureaucracy who enthusiastically initiated action and had put up a proper and systematic presentation of facts before the courts which paved way for the Golf Club coming into Government custody. Taking a cue from this success the Government should move forward confidently to evict legally all those who have encroached public land in the name of club, resort etc.

Golf is a lousy game invented by the westerners to get some sun in their cold climate. The poor Indians  imitated it and considered it as a status symbol. How many of the golfers from Trivandrum Golf club representated in any of the tournaments? Forget tournaments, how many know to play well?

BHOPAL TRAGEDY-II

Twenty thousand people died and thousands still suffering. That was the infamous Bhopal Gas Tragedy. And justice came after a long 25 years in the form of 2 years imprisonment to the culprits. They did not have to go behind bars even for one minute as they got bail for Rs. 25000/-. The main culprit Warren Anderson is enjoying life in US untouched, not even made accused in Bhopal killing. The whole world will be laughing at India. Had the incident been in US, the home of the company, Union Carbide would have been bankrupt and closed down by now paying billions of dollars compensation to the victims. But it is India and the victims were Indians. The life here is so cheap like that of pigs or dogs. So the company has thrown some peanuts to us, some paltry sum to the victims and escaped. It is a shame for us that we could not do anything to the company which has killed many of our people.

Hundreds of years of slavery, first under the Muslims and then under British made our rulers' mindset as that of a slave and still feel inferior to the white colored brutes.Union Carbide might have spent millions of dollars to manipulate things in their favour. Unless and untill we find pride in our tradition and rich heritage we would not be able to keep our head high. It is time for an introspection and discussion where we faltered in fighting the US company which killed our people with their callous acts and the contemptuous attitude still they keep towards us.

DR. RAVI PILLAI

Let us congratulate Dr. Ravi Pillai on getting the Padma and other prestigious awards and appreciate him for the charitable activities and social welfare measures he has undertaken. In the present day materialistic world where everybody is in a mad rush for amassing more wealth, the silver line for the downtrodden is philanthropists like Dr. Ravi Pillai. The mass marriage arranged for poor people, home for discarded parents, teaching of economically backward students etc. are exemplary acts deserved to be admired and appreciated.

It is learnt that he is toying with the idea of starting some industry and brooding over the nature of the industry. He is well experienced in the field of business and industry and it may be immature to make some suggestion in this regard. But since his social commitment overweighs the motive of profit it may not be out of place to make some suggestions.

Kerala is not fit for big industries due to the factors such as dense population, topography, fragile ecology etc. The land is ideal for small industries. Kerala is a consumer state and almost everything is brought from other states. It will be ideal if industry manufacturing the most- needed goods is started without disturbing the environment.

1. Soap, detergents, toothpaste, cosmetics, sanitary napkins. Considering the huge market potential it will be easy to capture the market monopolized by Hindusthan Unilver, Wipro, Johnson & Johnson etc. ITC are coming in a big way doing aggressive marketing.

2. Paint. Market is so big there is always room for new companies. Moreover, being a Kerala company it can easily make dents in the markets of the popular brands Asian, Nerolac, Berger,ICI, J&N.

3. Medicines. Big companies like Ranbaxy, Cipla, Glaxo Cadila etc. and a lot of small scale manufacturers of Indore and other cities, (fake and unscrupulous also take a huge share) rule the medicine market. A lot of scope for a local company to find out market in a big way.

By starting industry manufacturing these goods it can effectively  interfere in the local market in a big way. The label of Kerala industry and the credibility of the industrialist will play a big role in getting acceptance in the market. The advantage of marketing in the local area can bring down the prices much to the relief of the common man.

Let him locate the industry in his home district Kollam and the port at Kollam can be utilized to bring raw material from Gujarath, Maharashtra etc. which will bring down the cost as well as develop Kollam port.

KERALA SOAPS

The smooth and enchanting aroma of Kerala Sandal Soap might have conquered the hearts of generations but the ad fails to attract the new generation. It looks like an ad for some saree shops rather than of soap. The picture should have been of a bathing beauty clad in wet towel, drops of water about to drip down the cleavage and some sticking on the smooth and silky skin and airing a ravishing smile.

If an aristocratic look was intended in the Kerala saree style ad, it could be done with the style of bathing scene of ‘Unniyarcha’ in the movie “Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha” which will give a rich and traditional touch. Re work out the ad with a glamorous model to attract the present generation to the Kerala Sandal Soap. Bring in a good creative writer for some captivating captions.

KHUSHBOO SPREADING

Supreme Court verdict on Khushboo is a direct slap on the face of hypocrisy. Pre-marital and extra marital affairs are rampant in the high echelons of the society and are part of their life style. Film stars, sports persons, celebrities, politicians and the like indulge in it freely. Their adventures in this field are enjoyed and admired secretly by the masses who are destined to suppress their feelings. Politicians make a hue and cry just to gain some mileage out of it and to cover up their own secrets.

FOREIGNERS COMING

Kerala is always reluctant to adapt to the fast growing technology and this hesitation hampers and slows down our development. Be it introduction of computer or harvesting machine the petty politicians jump on the path. C-form, the mandatory document for providing accommodation to foreigners can now be sent on line so the details of foreigners staying in Kerala will be available with police instantly. It is very important in the backdrop of foreigners including terrorists moving around freely without being noticed and this should put an end to it.

But some loopholes are still there that C form can be sent by conventional methods also. So nobody can be blamed if it reaches police after the foreigner reaches back home. It will provide opportunity for foreigners like Headly, Rana and the one who attacked police at Thiruvananthapuram airport to misuse it. Is it so difficult for making it mandatory for all to submit C-form on line? It is so simple that lakhs of students exercise their option and take admission in the professional courses on line

POLICE STORY

Police theories often appear strange and absurd. Truth is stranger than fiction but the investigation reports cannot be fictitious. The system is to be blamed. It is the local police who reach the scene of crime first. Other than the induction course and the physical training they do not have much knowledge of crime investigation. Lack of experience and knowledge causes omission and inadvertent destruction of vital evidences. Possibility of extraneous considerations forcing such conscious acts also cannot be ruled out. In either way the valuable evidences to pin down the actual culprits are lost. Local police are ill equipped to combat the advanced technology and incompetent or reluctant to adopt modern techniques and scientific methods to unravel the truth. Third degree is still their only weapon to solve crimes.

An exclusive branch for crime investigation is required for overcoming the present situation. One DGP with independent charge heading the Branch with District units under SP and local units at strategic places under a Dy. SP with nobody in between to prevent outside interferences and for smooth functioning of the system. All the personnel in the Branch should be well trained in investigation, efficient, enthusiastic with good track record and proven integrity. The Strategic Units should reach the scene of crime in no time and take up the investigation. The local police have to provide all the information as they are locally well connected. Once a proper method like this is adopted we can ensure that Palakkad like incidents do not occur in future.

SELF FINANCING COLLEGES

Private Medical College managements demanded another fees hike. With the initial threat of “dire consequences” etc. the authorities, in all probability will succumb before the might of the private managements ultimately as in the past.

Kerala Government should take stock of the infrastructure facilities and faculty available in these medical colleges. Most of the names shown as faculty is only for publicizing and classes are run by skeletal staff, some of them not even qualified as per stipulation. Dearth of patients is another problem haunting these colleges. The students of a private dental college near Thiruvananthapuram, which was in news for suicide of a student allegedly due to harassment by teachers, have to go down the streets in search of patients for their final year examinations. It is a common feature in many colleges. Some colleges do not pay a single rupee to the doctors on internship and it looks like bonded labour.

If Kerala Government is not empowered to control these colleges or unable to do any thing in this regard let them conduct a study by a committee and submit the report to Medical Council/ Dental Council/Government of India so that they will initiate action.

Medical Council President Dr. Kethan Desai's arrest by CBI on charge of bribe of 2 crores for approval of new private medical colleges is any indication let the Government probe that angle also.

KERALA- HARTHAL'S OWN COUNTRY

Kerala is the hub of harthals. Harthal is imposed on flimsy grounds and on ridiculous reasoning forcing people into undue hardships and inflicting great loss and damage to the country. It serves no purpose other than personal gain for a minority but retards the economic growth of the nation.

People irrespective of their political affiliations despise and hate harthals. They vociferously fight against it but their voice is drowned by the organized might of its sponsors. Adding insult to injury, the people are asked to cooperate to get them harassed! The arrogance and contempt for the people reaching its pinnacle!

The only way to extirpate this evil before it exterminates us is to ostracize the persons calling harthals. Boycott all the functions attended by them. Show the power of people in the only place they can, in elections, and defeat them ruthlessly.

Responsible media have a lot to do. Black out all their functions and statements. Indian Express has spearheaded the fight against harthal and they can lead the lot.

Remember our fight is for our survival

SHASHI THAROOR

Shashi Tharoor now has the halo of a martyr and blessings of the power that steers the nation, he should do every thing legally possible to eliminate the evil elements that were instrumental in his ouster. His ardent supporters file a PIL in Kerala High Court praying a proper enquiry in the affairs of BCCI & IPL.

IPL-KOCHI-AHMADABAD

Kerala’s rendezvous with IPL stirred a hornet’s nest. Murky dealings to own IPL teams, proxy, underhand payments etc. came out. Many skeletons will tumble down from BCCI’s cupboard once the IT probe is over.

From the day one IPL was formed everybody knew it as a big-money game by big-wigs and quite naturally a circuit for money laundering. The sponsors, many unheard before, emerged from nowhere all of a sudden with new companies, probably of tax havens. But the authorities kept silent all these years, the people involved were VVIPs. Now the formation of Kochi team have woke them up and made them probe. Affairs of all teams, antecedents of sponsors and their source of income are to be investigated thoroughly. Let us hope that the probe will go in the right direction and all the dealings unearthed.

Lalith Modi’s tirade against Shashi Tharoor even stalled parliament with opposition parties crying for Tharoor’s blood. Battle lines are drawn and like “Kaurava” army all the veterans are behind Modi with Tharoor standing lonely. The Malayalees who have shown immense enthusiasm and showered lavish praise on Shashi Tharoor at getting Kochi-IPL are dead silent now and seem to have deserted Tharoor. Even Film Star Mohanlal and director Priyadarshan boasted of bidding for a Kerala team and expressed the possibility of joining sponsors after Kochi team came into existence are nowhere to be seen.

Everybody is very cautious. Why? BJP and CPM are against Tharoor,Congress has not come out in his support so far. So Malayalees do not have any opinion.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

We have shown nerves to try the Pak LeT terrorist Kasab ignoring the pressure and non-cooperation from across the border and the objections of the pseudo-human right activists.

The trial is over with more than 650 witnesses examined. We have seen CCTV footages of that terrorist killing several innocent Indians on 26/11 at Mumbai. He deserves no mercy.  It will be a lesson for the local terrorists like Thadiyantavide Nazeer and his accomplices.

Waiting for 3rd May, 2010. The judgement day.

POPE'S APOLOGIES

Pope has been making a lot of apologies lately for the sexual abuses of his priests world over. In July 2008 he apologized at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney for child abuses of the clergy in Australia. Two years later in March 2010 Pope Benedict XVI apologized to the Irish people- "I openly repress my shame and remorse that we all feel."

Pope’s brother Gorg Ratzinger, whose choir group is accused of child abuse asked forgiveness for the victims in Germany.

A report by Irish Government says of one priest abusing more than 100 children and another abused children each two weeks for more than 25 years.

In Switzerland 60 cases are under investigation. Catholic churches in US has paid over 1.1 billion dollars to victims from 2004.

All the above shows sex abuse by clergy is on the increase every where in the world including of course India. The chance of it being hushed up is more here. The immunity claimed in the name of ‘minority community’ and clever political maneuvering cover-up the crimes in India.

The people have to be more vigilant against these crimes as the people behind these criminals are rich and hence powerful and they will do any dirty things to cover up.

An apology comes after confession of sin. The wages of sin is death.

IPL-KOCHI...CHEER GIRLS

IPL Kochi- All are busy researching a name for it. What about cheer girls? Kochi has no glamourous women sponsors to jump, hug and kiss in the galleries. We have to outsource. Cheergirls are part of the game, to add spice to Fours and Sixes with their tickling performance.

Their dress code? Why can’t it be Kerala’s traditional “mundu” and “naryathu”? Any problem as it covers whole body? When their blithe, buxom and debonair counterparts in other teams are showing so much how can Kochi be far behind? There is a way out. With every boundary pull down the “neryathu” from bosom and lift the “mundu” up to the shorts and dance.

IPL-KERALA

Kochi got an IPL team. Media and people of Kerala were at ecstasy celebrating it as if it was the greatest event in the history of Kerala. Like winning an Olympic Gold. What Kerala gains out of it is the question. IPL is a big-money game involving stakes of crores. The tweny-20 version moulded to raise the excitement of the spectators is cleverly used in IPL to mint money. Here the team sponsors, BCCI and to a lesser extend the players stand to gain, neither the game of cricket nor the upcoming cricketers gain anything.

2500 plus crores of rupees was spent for Kochi team.It is business for the investors. Naturally they  want to get the money back. So they will go for good players and cricketers of star value and some old war horses in the team. Where will our budding stars get chance? Even if some get a chance that will end up with IPL.

KCA patched up the infighting and is all out for the IPL as they will also get some pittance. KCA is thinking of constructing a new stadium in Kochi. The land proposed earlier was paddy fileds and wet land and nature lovers are already up in arms against it. Construction there  will be destroying the ecologically important wet land. The influence of huge IPL money may pave way for the stadium on the same site. But Kerala will be a loser in the long run.

MOHANLAL KHADI CHAND GANDHI

Mohanlal, the Superstar of Malayalam movie  is becoming the Brand Ambassador of Khadi in Kerala. It is a good gesture from the great artist to permit use his popularity to promote khadi.

Some time back when he was moving around jovially asking us “what’s up this evening?” every one of us Malayalees understood the meaning of “what is” and we turned to “Original Choice”. Our logic- anyway we will be drinking, then why cant’ it be the ‘choice’ of our favourite superstar ?

Kerala is fortunate to have a celebrity of Mohanlal’s stature to promote Khadi and handloom cloth. Mohanlal might not have used Khadi in his life time. What is in it? He  might not have tasted the brand  the ‘original choice’ either.

Mohanlal is our superhero and since he said we have no 'choice' but to follow. We will use both. Wearing Khadi we will go to the bar for drinking his ‘choice’ brand.

M.F. HUSAIN

M.F. Husain is accepting citizenship offered by Qatar where he was staying for the last many years. He is at liberty to accept any such offer.

He was born in India and spent his fruitful life here attaining fame and amassing wealth. He got the acceptance here. Will he get the freedom of speech and expression he enjoyed in India anywhere else in the world? NO. The atmosphere in India is conducive to development of any kind of artistic skills and capabilities lying hidden in man. What contributions he has made to the artistic world while he was away from India? Any genuine work or masterpiece made there? NOTHING.

So let him come back to India and apoligise to the hurt feelings of Indians for depicting Bharath Matha and Hindu goddesses nude.

He makes nude  of those who he hates he is stated to have said while picturising Hitler nude.

Is it true Mr. Husain?

If you continue to stay in Qatar be careful. Do not depict Prophet Mohammed badly. They will not take it lightly. The laws there are strict and punishment severe, your hands will severed. NO hands to hold the brush!

Sachin Tendulkar- The Legend- Enriching the game of cricket with his remarkable and marvelous performance. He was playing for the game and for the nation for the last two decades. His blood and toil was for the country.(The only other cricketer of the same class was Kapil Dev). Sachin is on the top of the world, yet he plays for the game. He never played for records or with the ulterior motive of any personal gain. That made him so lovable and we feel him one among us. Money and fame did not gone to his head. He is proud of our  nation and we are proud of him.

The double century in the one day match is his latest record. Let him have more records in the coming days and let him bring the world cup to India.

RAILWAY & KERALA

Kerala gets its due share and it is reflected continuously in every Railway budget. Like the proverbial donkey moaning away its desire Kerala do after every budget. We lack proper orientation and consensus on our requirements. We fail to realize the basic thing that infrastructure development is the prime need for development of railways. It is simple logic that trains cannot run without railway tracks but we conveniently forget this fact while demanding more trains. The tracks are over utilized 200 per cent and pose a great danger to the millions of train commuters. Each MP, MLA or authorities ask new railway line or development in their constituency or place without considering the fact that railway development is not a piecemeal or a localized affair but has to be done as a whole, even development of connected railways lines in neighbouring States may also require for Kerala's development. We do not have any idea what we need exactly. We make demand for some unrealistic railway lines and Railways happily oblige with announcing a survey which will go on for many years. The Kottarakkara via railway line and Sabari line survey are examples.

What we need immediately is double line from Kanyakumari to Mangalore and it electrified. Related development of stations, new terminals etc. have to be identified ( Nemom and Kochu Veli terminals for example)and presented before Railway Ministry and got it done in a time bound manner.

Doctors in Kerala

Palatial bungalows, expensive limousines, lavish living- it is the life style of Doctors of Kerala Government Medical Colleges. Not from the hard earned money but from that extorted from the poor and helpless patients. Also fortune comes from drug companies as gratitude for indiscriminately prescribing their junk medicines. Doctors fear these facilities will come to an end with the stoppage of private practice and the mere thought of it sends tremors down their spines. Even 5 months without private practice made them mad and they are out openly for private practice.

Why are they clamoring for private practice? What professional ethics or medical ethics warrants private practice? It is not an urge or enthusiasm for treating patients. If it is an obsession and they really want to treat the patients even after duty hours why can’t they remain in the hospitals and help them like their counterparts doing in Regional Cancer Centre or Sri Chithra Institute of Medical Science in Thiruvananthapuram? In that case all the patients can very well get their service from the hospital itself. So private practice at their houses is nothing but a cover up to forcefully take money from their patients at the hospitals.

Doctors challenge that they will do private practice and collect money but they forget the simple truth that it is not their personal like or dislike but that they need patients. If patients are against private practice what will happen? Also what happens if people do not allow doctors private practice?

BIG -B KERALA’S BRAND AMBASSODOR?

Amitabh Bachan is tipped as the Brand Ambassador of Kerala! Brand ambassador is for marketing a product cashing in on the popularity of the celebrity. Here what to market? To market Kerala to the world? To sell our State? To make it like Malasia, Singapore or Las Vegas? To develop sex tourism here?

Kerala is rich in its cultural heritage. It had eminent sons like Adi Sankara. It has a great legacy. Kerala is a beautiful land blessed with nature. She has every thing and excels in every field. Kerala is well known world over and Keralites are everywhere in the world. Do we need any brand ambassador to project us?

PUNE BLAST

Terrorists have hit again. Killing 12 people. Pune blast once again brings to the fore the loopholes in our intelligence and security system.

Situation is worse in kerala. Last day one Malayalam TV channel shown one of their staff carrying a ‘bomb’ going inside Kochi collectorate, railway station and other important places in Kochi unnoticed, unchecked, uninterrupted and unquestioned. It could have been planted anywhere he liked. Not alone Kochi the whole of Kerala is vulnerable and  open to any type of terrorist activities in the most easy manner. And our police set up is busy in helmet ‘catching’!

Awake! Fight terrorism and save the country.

MUMBAI VISIT-RAHUL

Vini Vidi Vici. Rahul Gandhi landed in Mumbai amidst  threat from Shiva Sena, attended public function, interacted with people, traveled in suburban train and returned to base safely. To prove that Shiva Sena’s challenge is not to be taken serious and that people from other states are safe in Maharashtra. All this done in the fool proof safety of the many layered security ring made by scores of gun trotting commandos and security personnel. Can an ordinary citizen move around freely in Mumbai like this challenging Shiv Sena?
